James’ Place chosen as Merseyrail’s Charity of the Year 2020 to help men in suicidal crisis.

Merseyrail has chosen suicide prevention charity, James' Place, as its Charity of the Year 2020.

Employees at Merseyrail voted for James' Place as their chosen charity and will undertake fundraising activities throughout the year to support their life-saving work in helping men in suicidal crisis.

The rail operator kicked off its support with a £10,000 donation presented to James' Place at the Merseyrail Stakeholder reception, which brought together local organisations, shareholders and politicians.

Jane English, Merseyrail’s HR Director, said: “James’ Place provides invaluable support to men feeling suicidal and the services they offer save lives right across the Liverpool City Region.

“We’re very much looking forward to working with James’ Place this year, and to supporting the charity’s valuable efforts to make a difference to the lives of these men and their families.”

James' Place helps men in suicidal crisis find hope for the future. The centre in Liverpool is the first of its kind in the UK, offering brief, intensive therapeutic sessions in a non-clinical environment.

The charity has helped over 250 men so far, and fundraising support from Merseyrail throughout the year will help to make this vital work possible.

Clare Milford Haven, Founder of James’ Place, said: “We are so pleased and grateful to be chosen as Merseyrail’s Charity of the Year. It means a great deal to me, and to all the team at James’ Place, that the employees themselves have voted to support us.

“We opened in Liverpool 18 months ago and have been profoundly touched by how readily our work has been welcomed. We look forward to a great year ahead.”
